Aberpergwm Colliery
Following the announcement that 290 workers have been laid off at Aberpergwm Colliery in the Neath valley local MP Peter Hain said,
‘This is devastating for the families and the local communities. With 300 workers earning as much as £30000 a year each it will mean the local economy taking a hit of around £9million. This is a high tech high performance mine which is very profitable and it is tragic it has been a victim of the American parent company’s financial problems in America. I will be working with the Manager Rhidian Davies to see what options there are to revive the mine which has high quality anthracite much in demand across the world.”
