Hain Praises Resolven Youngsters After Receiving Unicef Award
Neath MP Peter Hain has congratulated pupils from Ynysfach Primary School, Resolven after they achieved their level one certificate for Rights Respecting Schools. The award is a UK wide Unicef initiative recognising the achievement in putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) at the heart of a school’s planning, policies, practice and ethos.
Commenting on the pupils’ success Mr Hain said, ‘this is a fantastic achievement for all those involved. At such a young age the pupils in Year three have shown a real concern and desire for children across the world to experience the same start in life as they do and enjoy the right to have good quality education.’
The pupils have also joined the Send All My Friends To School campaign and made a buddy chain to show they agree that all children in all countries around the world should have an education and go to school to learn.
The Buddy Chain has been sent to Mr Hain to help spread the word that we should ‘send all our friends to school’. On receiving the Buddy Chain Mr Hain said, ‘the chain is very impressive and the messages from the children are very touching and have a clear message – every child has the right to go to school.’
A rights-respecting school not only teaches about children’s rights but also models rights and respect in all its relationships: between teachers / adults and pupils, between adults and between pupils.
