Neath Magistrates Decision
Following the announcement by the Lord Chancellor over the future of Neath Magistrates Court Neath MP Peter Hain said,
‘This is bitterly disappointing. The Secretary of State has acted with arrogance and contempt, despite universal opposition locally and a viable alternative that would have saved money not cost extra by moving to the County Court nearby.
‘This a huge blow to Neath which will damage the local probation service, local solicitors, court users and the workforce. The switch of jobs to Swansea will cost Neath dear.
‘It will also undermine one of the key principles of our judicial system, that local cases are heard by local magistrates who the local area in a local venue.’
